PREREQUISITE:  US History, strong interest in government and history, and meet with Mr. Thomas before registration.

The AP US Government & Politics course is a college level course open to seniors with a high level of motivation and self-discipline. This course provides an analytical perspective on government and politics in the United States. The course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret U.S. politics and the analysis of specific case studies. It also requires familiarity with various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that constitute U.S. political reality. A further goal of the course it to prepare the student for the Advanced Placement US Government & Politics exam, given in the spring of the year. Evaluation of learning in the course will be based primarily on objective tests, periodic essay tests and on papers requiring research, analysis and synthesis. This exam will cost the student approximately $90.00. This course fulfills the Government requirement for graduation.
