Practical law will allow students to explore a wide range of legal principles necessary for understanding adult life in the United States, and to understand their practical application. Using a textbook, guest speakers, the Internet, class discussion, and simulation activities, students will: explore practical elements of the criminal justice system; know how criminal and civil trials are conducted; learn what things are necessary to make a binding contract; understand how and why our justice system holds persons criminally or civilly liable for acts and omissions; know their rights and responsibilities in leasing an apartment or buying a car; understand the relationship between an employer and employee and how government has affected that relationship; and much more.
