AAA TRAVELThe AAA (American Automobile Association) Travel High School Challenge modeled after the AAA/Ford Auto Skills competition and travel industry educator Marc Mancini’s Geography Bowl, is available to students in grades 9 – 12.  This educational challenge features three exciting levels of competition with $156,000 in college scholarship awards from the Hogan Family Foundation.  For more information see aaa.com/TravelChallenge.

ABC BOOK CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Members of the ABC Book Club are eligible for this scholarship provided they have 120 or more points on record by the due date or 30 or more points earned in the senior year.

AGRILIANCE CAREERS IN AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP - Agriliance and Croplan Genetics sponsor the Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program for rural youth.  High school seniors who will enroll in a two- or four-year agronomy or related crop production curriculum in the fall of 2006 are eligible to apply. Twenty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

ALLEN R. MITCHELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - The recipient of this $200 scholarship shall be a graduating senior from Watertown High School who has demonstrated excellent citizenship, scientific curiosity, scholastic ability, and plans a career in the field of life science.

ALPHA DELTA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIPAlpha Delta Kappa provides an opportunity of a $200.00 scholarship to a graduating senior of Watertown High School who, in the committee’s judgment, most clearly demonstrates academic promise, leadership, character and is entering the field of education.

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY COLLEGE/VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP The South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary shall award annually two $500 college scholarships and two $500 vocational scholarship to assist Veteran’s children or auxiliary member’s children to secure an education beyond the high school level

American Legion auxiliary Scholarship/Lois Halberg Nurse’s Scholarship- Three nurse’s scholarships in the amount of $2100 each will be awarded to assist veteran’s or Auxiliary members’ children or grandchildren to secure an education beyond the high school level.  This scholarship is available to any boy or girl who is a resident of the state of South Dakota, graduating from an accredited school whose sole interest is a career in nursing

ALPHA PHI, WATERTOWN CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIPThe scholarship fund of Alpha Phi, Watertown Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was established in 1999.  The chapter holds an annual Christmas Tree Lane Tour of Homes for their fun-raiser.  Homes are selected and then tickets are sold for the public viewing.  The amount of the scholarship will fluctuate from year to year depending on the annual sale of tickets.  This scholarship will be determined upon these issues:  essay, academics and activities.

AMERICAN LEGION ORATORICAL CONTEST - Each year the American Legion sponsors a nationwide speech contest, offering high school students the chance to win scholarships for education beyond high school. Each contestant must give a prepared oration on some phase of the United States Constitution, giving emphasis to the attendant duties and obligations of a citizen to his government. Awards ranging from $100 to $600 will be awarded.

ANNIS IRENE FOWLER/KADEN - This scholarship provides support for young women or men who have dedicated themselves to becoming professional educators. The scholarship is awarded to a freshman entering a South Dakota university who has demonstrated outstanding academic abilities. The student must apply to a South Dakota university granting degrees in elementary and secondary education, two letters of recommendation, an original essay, and ACT test results will be considered in choosing a winner. The award is $1000.

ARDELL BJUGSTAD SCHOLARSHIP - The Ardell Bjugstad Scholarship Program for Native American Students will award a $500 scholarship to a high school graduate who is an enrolled member of a federally recognized Indian tribe located in South or North Dakota and plans to enter a post-secondary institution pursuing studies in agribusiness, agricultural production, agricultural sciences or a natural resources degree.

ASTHMA ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP - All high school seniors with asthma who have achieved both excellence in competitive sports and a superior high school academic record are eligible. Ten scholarships in the amount of $3500 will be awarded.

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPThe AXA Achievement Scholarship Program offers college scholarship of $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school.  The applicants must be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States. 

BASIN ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP - Ten scholarships of $1,200 will be awarded to children of members of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative or subsidiary employees who are citizens of the United States. The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two year or four year college, university or vocational/technical school. The scholarship must be used for educational costs and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given. Scholarships are based on academic excellence, work experience, extra-curricular activities and a written recommendation.

BEN KLIEGLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship in the amount of $500 will be based on need, defined as absence of family or inability of a family or guardian to provide financial assistance for school related expense.  The senior must have an address of Goodwin, Kransburg or Bemis to be eligible and attending a college or vocational school following graduation.

BOB RICHARDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - The Watertown Lions Club is sponsoring the Bob Richardson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500. This scholarship will be awarded to a Watertown High School graduate who plans to continue their education at either a college or vocational school. The selection will be based on the applicant's community service involvement.

BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP - Burger King Restaurants will be rewarding a number of $1000 scholarships to qualifying students throughout South Dakota.  The scholarships will be divided equally among fine art participants, athletic participants and students that work at a South Dakota Burger King Restaurant.  Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 hours per month (unless individual circumstances such as physical disability or an ill family member prevents the student’s employment).  This does not have to be at a Burger King Restaurant.  They must demonstrate participation in extra curricular high school sponsored activities.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship has been made available to graduating seniors whose mother or grandmother is a member of Catholic Daughters.  The application requires a short synopsis of your future plans.  The scholarship is worth $200.

CELLULAR 2000-This High School Hero nomination is based on volunteer activities.  Five - $100 scholarships and one - $500 scholarship will be awarded throughout the year.

CHARLES LANGENFELD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - The Watertown High School Class of 1965 offers this award in honor of the memory of Charles Langenfeld, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968 while serving as a Corpsman in the US Navy. This $1000 scholarship will be applied to the cost of college, vocational school, or business school of the recipient's choice. The applicant should be a well rounded person with many interests.

CHEVROLET - MICHELLE KWAN R.E.W.A.R.D.S. SCHOLARSHIP To be eligible for this $5000 scholarship payable over four years you must be a female currently completing her senior year of high school with sufficient credit to graduate in the spring term.  You must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and have demonstrated both academic and athletic excellence through school teams, intramural activities, organized athletic clubs or other community-based sports organizations.  You must  continue to be involved in athletics at the college level.

CLASS OF 1951 SCHOLARSHIP - One - $500 scholarship will be awarded to a current year WHS senior to be used at any vocational school, college or university in the state of South Dakota.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM This program is sponsored by your local Coca-Cola bottler and the Coca-Cola Company.  The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is a public nonprofit foundation and the largest business supported scholarship fund of its kind.  Program awards consist of 50 scholarships worth $5000 annually and 100 scholarships worth $1000 annually, all renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.  These awards may be used at any accredited U.S. college or university of the student’s choice.  Selection will be based on a number of factors, with special emphasis on the character, personal merit, and background of each individual.

CONCORD LODGE 13 MASONIC SCHOLARSHIP - A $750 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Watertown High School by the Masons of Concord Lodge 13, Watertown. Any student with a grade point average of C+ or better who is planning to attend a vocational school, college or university is eligible. Preference will be given to a student whose family has Masonic affiliation.

CONSERVATION SPEECH CONTEST The South Dakota Department of Agriculture, Division of Resource Conservation and Forestry will sponsor a speech contest for students, grades 9-12.  Any student enrolled in a South Dakota High School is eligible to compete for $1200 in scholarships.

CRYSTAL QUAIL SCHOLARSHIP-COLLEGE/VOCATIONAL - Crystal was a Watertown High School science teacher for 14 years before her untimely death. Scholarships for $1000 and $500 will be awarded to a Watertown High School seniors who plan to attend a college or vocational school in South Dakota or an out of state school that has a reciprocity agreement with South Dakota. Preference will be given to students entering any science, engineering or technology field.

Dacotah Bank Scholarship A $1000 scholarship will be given to South Dakota High School senior who plans to attend a South Dakota college, university, community college or vocational school.  This scholarship is open to students whose families currently have an account relationship with Dacotah Bank, Dacotah Insurance or the Investment Centers of America located at Dacotah Bank.

DAKOTA CORPS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - The Dakota Corps Scholarship Program, created by Governor Rounds, is aimed at encouraging South Dakota high school graduates to: Obtain their postsecondary education in South Dakota; remain in the state upon completion of their education; contribute to the state of South Dakota and its citizens by working in a critical need occupation. Current critical need occupations: teaching k-12 music, special education or foreign language in a public, private or parochial school; teaching high school math or science in a public, private or parochial school;; working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or in other allied health care fields. The scholarship amount will be equal to tuitions and generally applicable fees for 16 credits hours at a public South Dakota college, public technical college, or tribal college. The scholarship amount at a participating private college will be the same amount that is paid at a public South Dakota college. Participating colleges will provide additional scholarship to cover remaining tuition and fees if needed. It is the intent of the program that the scholarship recipients do not have to pay anything toward tuition and generally applicable fees.

DAN AND KRISTIN HANTEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Hanten Memorial Scholarship fund will award a $500 scholarship to one female and one male graduate of Watertown High School in memory of Dan and Kristin Hanten.  This scholarship is to reward students who have shown improvement in their academic work throughout high school and now plan to attend college.

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION This scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has qualities of dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism.  The awards range from $100 to $2000.

DELTA KAPPA GAMMA EDUCATION INCENTIVE GRANT - One $500 scholarship will be presented to a South Dakota graduate. The student must be going into the field of education.

DISCOVER CARD TRIBUTE AWARD: The Tribute Award Program consists of State and National scholarship awards.  Nine will be given in each of the 50 states, D.C. and the U.S. Territories/American schools abroad. The scholarships range from $500 $20,000. Applicant must be a current high school junior who is planning to continue his or her education at a vocational/technical school, in arts and humanities studies or in other studies at a degree conferring college or university.

DRAKE ALLEN TITZE TRACK SCHOLARSHIP - One - $400 scholarship will be awarded to a talented track or cross country senior who will be attending college.  This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Drake Allen Titze.

DWIGHT D. AND AGNES L. MILLER - The recipient of this $500 scholarship will be a student from the top 20% of the current graduating class who has demonstrated scholastic achievement commensurate with ability; a high level of motivation in academics, extra curricular, self discipline and concern for the well being of others will be considered.

EDWARD T. DAYTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Five awards of approximately $600 each will be made to students pursuing an education in Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Biology, Business or Home Economics. The selection is based on class rank and financial need.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION - Financial need, leadership, and scholarship are the criteria by which applicants are judged. Application must be made on the official form provided by the Elks National Foundation. Awards up to $5000 will be given.

ESA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Scholarships from $500 to $1000 will be awarded to a student who shows excellent character, leadership, scholastic ability, and financial need.  The applicant must have maintained a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or a minimum score on the ACT of 20 or 950 on the SAT.

EDWARD M. AND RUTH F. BELATTI MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP - One scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a baccalaureate degree in music and who is deemed to have the highest potential to succeed in earning a degree in music. The scholarship is approximately $500.

FLORENCE M. BRUHN SCHOLARSHIP  - The recipient of the Florence M. Bruhn Scholarship shall be committed to a post secondary education in the area of theatre and or visual arts.  The selection will be based on a 500 word essay telling the committee of your participation in the area of theatre and /or visual arts and your plans for the future.

FRED AND MARIE CHRISTOPHERSON SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is for a South Dakota graduating high school senior who is planning to attend a South Dakota four-year academic college or university. Selection is based on demonstrated academic excellence. The award is $2,500.

FREDERIC A. CANNON MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP - One - $500  scholarship will be awarded to a musically talented senior who has been a student at Watertown High School for a minimum of 3 years, is planning to attend a South Dakota University or one in another state which has reciprocity with South Dakota, and plans to pursue a major or minor in music.

GESLEY GREAT PERSON AWARD - This scholarship of $500 is available to all seniors who have attended Watertown Senior High School for at least two years and who plan to attend an institution of higher learning located in the state of South Dakota. The person selected shall personify a great person.

GLACIAL LAKES EMPLOYEES’ FEDERAL CREDIT UNION GLEFCU has made available one $500 scholarship for a senior who is planning to attend college or a vocational/technical school and whose parent is a member of the credit union.

GRANT-ROBERTS RURAL WATER SYSTEM, INC. - To receive this scholarship you must be a graduating senior who plans to attend college or a technical school in the fall of the school year.  Parent or guardian must be a member of Grant-Roberts Rural Water System..

GOLDEN AGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is funded by the Kiwanis Golden Age Club of Watertown. A $400 or more scholarship will be awarded annually to seniors attending Watertown High School who plan to attend an institution of higher learning. The student must be a current member of the Kiwanis Key Club.

G.W. CASE SCHOLARSHIP - This competitive scholarship is to be need based and awarded to a student graduating from Watertown High School and who plans to further their education in engineering or mathematics and who has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 and attained a 21 composite ACT score. Two $1000 (approximately) scholarships will be awarded

Hanson vilhauer & Raml P.C. Accounting Scholarship This $500 scholarship provided by Lubbers, Hanson, Vilhauer P.C., Certified Public Accountants and Consultants of Watertown, will be given to a Watertown High School senior who plans to pursue a career in accounting.

HARRY P. SIGELMAN SCHOLARSHIP - The purpose of the Harry Sigelman scholarship is to assist a high school student in attending Lake Area Technical Institute. This award will be granted to an eligible student as indicated, upon the basis of vocation or technical achievements, scholarship, motivation and citizenship. Financial need shall not be a criterion for the award unless two or more candidates are in the committee's view equally deserving of the award. The award is approximately $200.

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - High school seniors planning to pursue a college education are eligible for this scholarship. The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans will award $2,500 to 50 scholarship recipients in South Dakota. The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated: integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity; strength of character; financial need; a good academic record; commitment to pursue a college education;  and a desire to contribute to society.

HUGH O'BRIAN (HOBY) YOUTH LEADERSHIP SEMINAR - One Watertown High School sophomore with leadership potential will be selected to represent the school at  the state HOBY Youth Leadership seminar in June 2006.  The seminar is designed to prepare students to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOLARSHIP - Several $1000 scholarships will be available to students who have attended Immaculate Conception School. The students selected must have attended for a minimum of three years and are planning to attend a college or vocational school in the fall. This $1000 is to be used for tuition and books.

JAMES MESSER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - The recipient of this $350 scholarship will be a graduating senior of WHS who has demonstrated high academic ability in the sciences. He/she must also plan a future in the life sciences. Financial need is a consideration for selection.

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY PTO - Two $250 scholarships will be awarded to a student who attended Jefferson Elementary School.  Consideration is based on Academic accomplishments, School and community participation, Honors, awards and recommendations.

JERALD D. EGGEN SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, in the amount of $300, will be given to a Watertown High School senior who plans on majoring in education and who has enrolled at a South Dakota four-year college.

JESSIE D. & JESSIE E. VINCENT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is funded from the annual interest earned on the money placed in the Watertown Community Foundation in memory of the Vincent's (up to $1000). The criteria for selection of the scholarship winner will be based on need, character, and high school scholastic performance. To be eligible an applicant must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

JOE FOSS, AN AMERICAN HERO SCHOLARSHIP This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who graduates from a South Dakota accredited high school and who will be attending an institution of higher learning who has a GPA of at least 2.5 and a minimum ACT of 21 and who possess characteristics of an American patriot.

JOHN ERIC BOHLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship has been created out of memory for John Eric Bohle, a 1958 Watertown Senior High School graduate, who passed away on April 3, 1996. The recipient of the John Bohle Scholarship should be a young man from a single parent family who will be attending a post-secondary education program upon graduating from Watertown Senior High School. His citizenship and scholastic records should provide evidence of his ability to benefit from a program. The scholarship is approximately $500.

JOE FOSS, AN AMERICAN HERO SCHOLARSHIP This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who graduates from a South Dakota accredited high school and who will be attending an institution of higher learning who has a GPA of at least 2.5 and a minimum ACT of 21 and who possess characteristics of an American patriot.

Junior golf foundation The South Dakota Junior Golf Foundation will be offering four $1000 scholarships to applicants who have lived in the state of South Dakota for a minimum of two years, and plan to attend a four year South Dakota college, university or accredited post high school institution during the upcoming fall semester. The applicant will be determined by attested past performance at their golf club, diligence, cooperation, willingness to work, high school academic achievement leadership qualities, honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, financial need.  Golf ability will be a low consideration.

KARST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This award will be presented to a senior who will graduate from a South Dakota High School in the upper 50% of the class. The recipient must be going into an agricultural related field qualify for the $200 scholarship.

KEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP- The Watertown High School Key Club will award a graduating senior a $200 scholarship for his/her efforts in community service.

KIMBERLY ERLING SPANISH SCHOLARSHIP This $675.00 scholarship was established in memory of Kimberly Ann Erling who graduated from Watertown High School in 1971.  She spent the last part of her life teaching Spanish or working in fields associated with the language.  To be eligible you must be a Watertown senor who has taken some Spanish in high school.  You must plan to study Spanish in college but not necessarily major or minor in the language.  Seniors considered for this scholarship do not have to be the best student but a deserving one. 

KINSHIP SCHOLARSHIP - One scholarship in the amount of $100 will be awarded to a senior who has direct affiliation with the Kinship Program. Those students who have participated in Boy's & Girl's Club activities may also apply. They must be planning to attend a school of higher learning.

LAKE AREA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS LATI is offering five, $500 scholarships for the fall semester to a high school senior interested in enrolling at Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute.

LAKE AREA MULTI-DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIP - Scholarships will be awarded to students who have participated in a Multi-District class in the Watertown school district.

LES ROSE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP - This $1000 scholarship recipient should be an instrumentalist who plans on furthering his education regardless of their major. Preference will be given to students who plan to further their education in music, particularly brass players and have demonstrated exceptional talent.

LEWIS J. MENZEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship ($500) will be awarded to a outstanding senior who is a resident of South Dakota, has a GPA of 2.5 or above, and been accepted to a four year college. Citizenship and extra-curricular involvement are important. Financial need will be considered.

LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO SCHOLARSHIP – These two scholarships $250 will be awarded to Watertown High School seniors who plan to attend college or vocational school following graduation. The student must have attended Lincoln Elementary for a minimum of two years, have a GPA of 2.5 and not receiving a large amount of financial aid.

LINDA BRANDRIET MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship of $500 is available to a student who is planning to major in elementary education and who also attended Jefferson Elementary.  Academic achievement, school/community service,  financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0 will be considered.

LUCY HOSKINS AYRES ENDOWMENT - Any South Dakota high school senior or college student, who is the child or grandchild of a veteran of armed conflicts or career military personnel who entered, enlisted, or re-enlisted in the service as a resident of South Dakota, is eligible for this $500.00 scholarship.

LYLE MARQUIS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing college or technical school study. The student must demonstrate financial need and have demonstrated, through high school performance, a reasonable chance for success at the post high school level.

MAGIC MILE LION’S SCHOLARSHIPThe Magic Mile Lion’s Club will award one scholarship to a Watertown High School senior in the amount of $500 which is to be used to further their education in the state of South Dakota.  The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and show need for financial aid.

MARION T. WOOD SCHOLARSHIP The South Dakota Association of Educational Office of Professionals sponsors a $200 scholarship each year.  This scholarship will go to a senior who pursues a degree in education.  The applicant must have completed two or more business education courses.

McKINLEY ELEMENTARY COLLEGE/ VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - The McKinley Parent Teacher Organization has made available Two - $250 scholarships for eligible seniors to be used at any college or vocational technical school. To be eligible applicants must have attended McKinley Elementary School for no less than three years.

MELLETTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP The Mellette Parent Teacher organization has made available one $250 scholarship for an eligible senior at Watertown High School.  This can be used at any post secondary institution.  To be eligible, applicants must have attended Mellette Elementary School at least two years.

MENSA EDUCATION & RESEARCH FOUNDATION - This scholarship is based on an essay which describes the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal. Awards of $200 to $1,000 will be given.

MINNESOTA-DAKOTAS KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP – (Joseph E. Messer) Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The applicant must be a legal resident of Minnesota or the Dakotas, and be a graduating senior from a four year high school. Scholarships of $1000 or more will be based on scholastic ability, need and seriousness of purpose.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES SCHOLARSHIP - The applicant must be a high school senior in Minnesota or North or South Dakota. They must be planning to attend a college or university in the upcoming semester. Minimum SAT of 850 or 19 ACT and a 3.0 GPA are required. Participation in extra- curricular activities is a must as well as 45 hours of community service during the course of the academic school year.

MISSOURI RIVER ENERGY High school seniors who reside in one of Missouri River Energy Services’ municipal utilities service areas are eligible for this $1000 scholarship

NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP This senior must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be pursuing a degree at a college or vocational school.  They must demonstrate ability as a leader, have some community involvement, be active in school activities and have and must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports.  Scholarships range from $250 locally to $5,000 nationally.

Nellie Newcomb SCHOLARSHIP – One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded to a Watertown High School senior.  Applicants who plan to attend an accredited college or trade school, and have at least a 2.5 GPA are eligible.

PHCC EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is intended for those students who wish to have a career in the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling industry.  You must be sponsored by a SDAPHCC member and the applicants must be a senior in high school or a freshman in college.  One scholarship in the amount of $500 and one for $1,000 will be awarded.

PLAINS COMMERCE BANKThis scholarship will be available to  graduating high school seniors who attend an accredited South Dakota college, vocational school, or community college on a full time basis.  The student or their parent must be a customer of Plains Commerce Bank.

POST #17 AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is being offered to a graduating senior whose father, mother or grandparent is an American Legion member.  The award is for $400.

PREMIER BANK SCHOLARSHIP - First Premier Bank is offering ten $1000.00 scholarships to students who are customers of the bank or his parents are a customer. The student can be attending any school of higher education.

PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD The Principal’s Leadership Award program will award 150 scholarships of $1000 each nationwide.  Only one senior per school may be nominated.  The Nominees should be in the top 20% of their senior class and demonstrate leadership.  Selection is not based on financial need.

RELIABANK DAKOTA SCHOLARSHIP Scholarships will be awarded to a high school senior who will be attending a 4 year college or university.  One scholarship for $1000 will be given to a student attending a South Dakota School and $500 to a student attending any accredited school.  The applicant must be a customer of Reliabank.

ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP – This is a federally-funded program to promote student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptional students who show promise of continued excellence. Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding high school seniors for the first year of study at an institution of higher education. Scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded. Students may attend any eligible in-state or out-of-state institution of higher education but must complete one year of study. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5 and ACT score of 24 and above.

ROBERT M. KLIEGLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This $1000 scholarship will be selected based on need, need defined as absence of family or inability of a family or guardian to provide financial assistance for school related expense.  Applicants must have an address of Goodwin, Kransburg or Bemis to be eligible and attending a college or vocational school following graduation. This scholarship is payable in two $500 scholarships.  At the beginning of the fall term of the firs and second year of post-secondary school.  Confirmation of your registration is required. 

ROGER RECTOR SCIENCE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The recipient of this $500 Roger Rector Science Memorial Scholarship shall be a senior at Watertown High School who plans to pursue a degree in a science or wildlife field.  GPA and financial need are not necessarily a consideration, but the recipient must demonstrate Empathy toward others and be involved in school or community activities.

ROLAND DAHL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPThis $300 scholarship will be given to a Watertown senior to be used at any college or vocational school of their choice.  Selection will be based on classroom performance and a 250 word essay stating college and future plans.

ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO SCHOLARSHIP - The Roosevelt PTO has made available a $300 scholarship for eligible Watertown High School seniors to be used at any post secondary institution. To be eligible, applicants must have attended Roosevelt Elementary School. Selection will be based on academics, honors, extra-curricular and letter of recommendation.

ROTC/ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP - Scholarships are available from all branches of the service, Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. It is recommended that you start the application process at the end of your junior year. Interested students should visit Student Services for more information or call 882-6323.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE MILK MUSTACHE OF THE YEAR (SAMMY) - This is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to apply for a $7500 scholarship. Selection for the scholarship will be based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership and community service. You must request an application several weeks before the application due date.

SCOTTISH RITE BOOK GRANT- A Grant in the amount of $100 will be awarded to South Dakota students who plan to attend a school of higher education in the state of South Dakota.

SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS: A program of scholarships for the study of engineering - This program provides direct tuition grants to outstanding students pursuing engineering degrees. To be eligible you must be a citizen of the United States be a high school junior or senior, have at least a 3.5 grade point average and meet minimum requirements with regard to SAT or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of the scholarship. A total of 29 SAE Engineering Scholarships will be available to college freshmen. Awards from $500-$6,000 will be given.

SOIL/WATER CONSERVATION SPEECH CONTEST The topic for this speech contest is varied each year.  Any boy or girl attending high school, grades 9-12, is eligible to participate.  Awards of $25 - $900 are available.

SOUTH DAKOTA AMATEUR SOFTBALL SCHOLARSHIP The SDASA Program has been established to award scholarships to participants and /or family members in the SDASA program, who desire to further their education.  These family members must have participated in the SDASA program for at least 3 years; as a player coach, umpire, SDASA official, or league official. Applicants must be 19 years of age or younger and be a graduating senior from an accredited South Dakota high school during the year of application.

SOUTH DAKOTA FARMERS UNION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - The South Dakota Farmers Union is proud to announce the availability of scholarship money for applicants whose parents are members of the SD Farmers Union.  Awards of $100-200 will be made to qualified high school graduate or college student.  Awards will be based on ACT scores and transcript of grades.

SOUTH DAKOTA MANUFACTURED HOUSING ASSOCIATION - This is a state wide program that is open to all juniors and seniors. Applicants are to write an essay on the topic of, “How have the trailer houses of yesterday changed to the manufactured homes of today?” Scholarships for $250-$500 will be awarded.

SOUTH DAKOTA OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP The South Dakota Legislature authorized the Regents Scholarship Program to allow South Dakota’s most academically accomplished high school graduates to receive an affordable education at any university, college, or technical school in South Dakota that is accredited by the North Central Association.  This scholarship provides $5,000 over four years to a qualifying student who attends an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota.  You must be a resident of South Dakota at the time of high school graduation, have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or and SAT of 1070 or higher, must complete the course requirements of the Regents Scholars curriculum with no final grade below a C, and have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (based on state conversion of numeric grade points).  The Regents Scholar curriculum is as follows:  4 units of English, 3 units of social studies, 4 units of algebra or higher mathematics, 4 units of science, ½ unit of computer science, 1 unit of fine arts and 2 units of the same modern or classical language.

south Dakota Retailers Association The applicant for this scholarship must be enrolled in a retail-related course of study at a vocational technical school, or as a student at a college or university in any field of study relating to a career in the retail industry at the time of application and during the actual disbursement of the award.  Example of areas of study considered to be retail-related may include:  Agribusiness, Apparel Merchandising, Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Management, Landscape Design, Pharmacy, Printing Industries, Refrigeration, Sale/Marketing Management and Tourism Industry Management.

South Dakota Vocational Association The applicant for this scholarship must be applying or accepted by a post high school program at any South Dakota technical institute or a vocational educator program at a South Dakota University.

SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD Students grades 5-12 are eligible for this award.  You must be a volunteer in the community and have performed at least in part after September 1st.  Employees of NASSP, CSFA, Prudential or its affiliates their children or previous national award recipients are not qualified.

SPIRIT OF DAKOTA Each applicant of this $1000 scholarship must be a female high school senior.  The applicant must attend a South Dakota institution of higher learning which maintains a two-year or four-year accredited progra.

STEINKOGLER BAND SCHOLARSHIP This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a Watertown High School senior who has been a band member throughout their high school career while maintaining at least a 3.25 GPA.  The recipient must be planning to attend a South Dakota University.

TARGET ALL-AROUND SCHOLARSHIPThe Target All-Around Scholarship was designed to commend those students who strive to achieve excellence in their schools and in communities by volunteering their time and talents to those in need.  You must be a high school senior or current college student and must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study.  Four $10,000 and over 2,000 $1000 scholarships will be awarded.

THELMA FOSTER SCHOLARSHIP - One scholarship in the amount of $300 will be awarded each year. Candidates for this award shall be junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary. Completed application must be sent to the State Education Chairman

TOM STEELE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Student Loan Finance Corporation has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors throughout South Dakota and employees’ children who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs.  There will be up to 220 $1000 awards granted each year.  Criteria for this scholarship will be based on academics and involvement.

TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPTo be eligible for this scholarship you must be a high school senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or better.  Be actively involved in a service organization or project that has a positive impact on the school or community, and plan to pursue a degree at an accredited four year college or university in the United States.

TUCKABATCHIE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - The Tuckabachie Club awards one or more scholarships annually to senior members who have shown exemplary leadership skills in their work within the club. The amount of the award is approximately $200.

UNITED STATES JCI SENATE FOUNDATION– Ten - $1000 grants will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in the United States who plan to continue their education.  Eligibility will be based on need, leadership and academic success.

USS GUSTAFSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship will go to a Watertown senior who has demonstrated academic ability but currently does not have the financial resources to attend college. This must be a student who can contribute much to his/her community if given the opportunity, a student who has shown leadership and participation in school and community activities. This scholarship is worth approximately $500.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS/VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP Voice of Democracy is a broadcast scriptwriting scholarship program with over 137,000 students participating from schools in each of our 50 states, D.C., Europe and Pacific Areas.  To enter the competition a student must write and then record a short three to five minute script covering the theme chosen for the current year.  The competition is open to 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students.  Scholarships of up to $1000 are awarded.

VIETNAM ERA VETERANS REUNION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Students in the 11th and 12th grade, who are now living and enrolled in a South Dakota high school and are dependents of a South Dakota Vietnam Veteran, whether the veteran be living or deceased, are eligible for this award. All participants must prepare a thesis. A personal history form must accompany the thesis. Awards range from $500-$2000

WAL-MART SCHOLARSHIP - Your local Wal-Mart store will be awarding a $1000 scholarship to an area graduating senior. The award will be based on the student's scholastic and academic achievements, extra-curricular, work activities and financial need.

WARREN E. LINDQUIST FRIENDSHIP SCHOLARSHIP - The family of Warren E. Lindquist, a 1941 graduate of Watertown High School, has established a unique scholarship in honor of Mr. Lindquist. This is an opportunity for a senior to nominate a fellow senior for a $1000 scholarship. The student selected will have demonstrated the greatest friendship by their acts and deeds toward you. The criteria for selection will be based on your short essay describing how this person has been the greatest friend to you. Scholarship is for $1000.

WATERTOWN BUSINESS & PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship was established to encourage young women graduating from Watertown High School to further their education in business or profession of their choosing. The scholarship is $100.

WATERTOWN EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - A, $500 scholarship will be awarded to a person who expresses a strong commitment to pursuing teaching as a career. The applicant must be a senior at Watertown High School and must be in the top half of his or her class. Selection will be based on academics, essay, and teacher recommendations.

WATERTOWN KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP- One - $400 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Watertown High School senior planning to attend any college or vocational school.

WATERTOWN OPTIMIST SCHOLARSHIP – The Watertown Optimist Club annually awards two - $500 scholarships to seniors who plan to attend a college or technical school.  The selection is based on a 500 word essay, involvement, and academic achievement.

WATERTOWN ROTARY CLUB COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP - The Watertown Rotary Club will award three scholarships in the amount of $750 to graduating seniors of WHS who demonstrate academic promise, leadership and service to youth, peers and elders.  They must demonstrate through personal example high percepts of character and who demonstrate financial need.

WATERTOWN ROTARY CLUB VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - The Watertown Rotary club will award two scholarships in the amount of $350 to graduating seniors of WHS planning to attend a vocational/technical institute, and who demonstrate academic promise, leadership and service to youth, peers and elders; who demonstrate through personal example high percepts of character; and have a demonstrated financial need.

WATERTOWN TOBACCO EDUCATION PROJECT SCHOLARSHIPThe Watertown Tobacco Education Project Coalition will award a $250 scholarship to a deserving high school senior who has shown great leadership in their community and school and has chosen to be tobacco free for at least two years. They must pursue a degree at either a college or vocational school.

WATERTOWN WINTER FARM SHOW SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is Co–sponsored by the Watertown Winter Farm Show Scholarship Ag-Committee and the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce Ag-Committee.  This scholarship is available to a student who is currently enrolled in a post-secondary education endeavor (college or technical school) at the time the award is presented in October and who has participated  (or their family has participated) in the Watertown Winter Farm Show.  This is a $500 award. 

Watertown Wrestling Booster Club Scholarship This $500 scholarship will be given to a letter winning Watertown Senior High wrestler who plans to further his education as a full time student at a vocational school or college of his choice. 

WELLS FARGO BANK COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Wells Fargo Banks are committed to providing opportunities for our community's youth, and to the institutions of higher education who help our youth learn and grow. Wells Fargo Banks will award sixty-two, $1,000 scholarships equally to female and male high school seniors. Recipients must use the scholarship to attend an institution of higher learning inside South Dakota. They must attend a high school located in a Wells Fargo Bank community at the time of their application. They must meet income guidelines described in the application. Scholarship candidates must exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills, and participate in extra-curricular activities.

WHS STUDENT SENATE SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship is open to all graduating seniors of Watertown High School.  The amount of this scholarship is $150.  Selection for this scholarship will be based on scholastic record and activities.

World War II Retired Teacher’s Memorial Scholarship One graduating senior in South Dakota will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be used to continue his education at an institute located in the State of South Dakota.  The applicant must be a grandchild/great grandchild of a World War II veteran.

WORLD WAR II VETERAN’S MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship was endowed by Fern and Darwin Williams who attended Watertown Senior High.  It is a memorial to those who gave their lives in World War II.   Financial need is consideration for selection.  Need is defined as absence of family or inability of a family or guardian to provide financial assistance for school related expense.  The award is for $1000.
