American Legion Codington County Post 17 Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship is open to graduating seniors whose parent/grandparent has present or past military service and/or the student has participated in an American Legion-sponsored activities (i.e. baseball, Boys/Girls State, Oratorical Contest.) American Legion Oratorical Contest Each year the American Legion sponsors a nationwide speech contest, offering high school students the chance to win scholarships for education beyond high school. Each contestant must give a prepared oration on some phase of the United States Constitution, giving emphasis to the attendant duties and obligations of a citizen to his government. Annis Irene Fowler/Kaden Scholarship This scholarship provides support for young women or men who have dedicated themselves to becoming professional educators. The scholarship is awarded to a freshman entering a South Dakota university who has demonstrated outstanding academic abilities. The student must apply to a South Dakota university granting degrees in elementary and secondary education, two letters of recommendation, an original essay, and ACT test results will be considered in choosing a winner. Ardell Bjugstad Scholarship The Ardell Bjugstad Scholarship Program for Native American Students will award a $500 scholarship to a high school graduate who is an enrolled member of a federally recognized Indian tribe located in South or North Dakota and plans to enter a post-secondary institution pursuing studies in agribusiness, agricultural production, agricultural sciences or a natural resources degree. 2/24/12 Apply Here
Ashley & Amanda Loban Scholarship Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in remembrance of Ashley and Amanda Loban, whose young lives were cut short by a fatal automobile accident on May 22, 2006 in Brookings County. Scholarships will be awarded to one Brookings High School student and one South Dakota High School student who will be full-time students at a post-secondary school and have been nominated by a teacher, principal, guidance counselor, coach or pastor for the applicant's acts of kindness, good citizenship and humanitarianism. 3/02/12 Apply Here
AXA Achievement Scholarship The AXA Achievement Scholarship Program offers college scholarship of $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school.  The applicants must be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States.   12/15 Apply Here

Bob Glines Memorial Scholarship by the Magic Mile Lion's Club The Magic Mile Lion’s Club will award one scholarship to a Watertown High School senior in the amount of $500 which is to be used to further their education in the state of South Dakota.  The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and show need for financial aid. Bob Richardson Memorial Scholarship The Watertown Lions Club is sponsoring the Bob Richardson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500. This scholarship will be awarded to a Watertown High School graduate who plans to continue their education at either a college or vocational school. Buick Achievers Scholarship Program The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is open to students to plan to enroll in a 4-year college or university, majoring in a course of study that focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). Select Design, Marketing, Accounting, Finance and Business majors are also eligible. There will be 1,000 Buick Achievers Scholarships of $2,000 and 100 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of up to $25,000 per year. Burger King Scholarship Burger King Restaurants will be awarding a number of $1000 scholarships to qualifying students throughout South Dakota. The scholarships will be divided equally among fine art participants, athletic participants and students who work at a South Dakota Burger King Restaurant. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 hours per month (unless individual circumstances such as physical disability or an ill family member prevents the student's employment.). Charles Langenfeld Memorial Scholarship The Watertown High School Class of 1965 offers this award in honor of the memory of Charles Langenfeld, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968 while serving as a Corpsman in the US Navy. This $1000 scholarship will be applied to the cost of college, vocational school, or business school of the recipient's choice. Chelsea Ann Vilhauer Memorial Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship has been established in memory of Chelsea Ann Vilhauer who was born on Oct. 8, 1990 and died Feb. 7, 1991 of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Chelsea would have graduated with the Class of 2009. To be eligible for the scholarship the applicant must be a graduating senior at WHS who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership qualities, participates in extra-curricular activities and is planning to pursue a career in the field of medicine, pharmacy or nursing. Coca-Cola Scholars Program This program is sponsored by your local Coca-Cola bottler and the Coca-Cola Company.  The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is a public nonprofit foundation and the largest business supported scholarship fund of its kind.  Program awards consist of 50 scholarships worth $5000 annually and 100 scholarships worth $1000 annually, all renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.  These awards may be used at any accredited U.S. college or university of the student’s choice.  Selection will be based on a number of factors, with special emphasis on the character, personal merit, and background of each individual. 10/31 Apply Here
Codington-Clark Electric Cooperative Scholarship This scholarship is open to a high school senior who is a dependent child of a member cooperative consumer or a child of a member cooperative employee. The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. Scholarships are based on academic excellence, work experience, extra-curricular activities and a written recommendation. Codington-Clark Electric Cooperative will offer two $500 scholarships and a $1,000 scholarhsip through the Basin Electric Scholarship Program. Concord Lodge 13 Masonic Scholarship A $750 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Watertown High School by the Masons of Concord Lodge 13, Watertown. Any student with a grade point average of C+ or better who is planning to attend a vocational school, college or university is eligible. Curtis Marvin Hohn Legacy Scholarship

The competitive $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors of a South Dakota High School  attending a public or private college, university, or technical school in South Dakota and pursuing studies in history, political science, or water resources related studies.

Crystal Quail College Scholarship Crystal Quail was a Watertown High School science teacher for 14 years before her untimely death. A scholarship for $1000 will be awarded to a Watertown High School senior who plans to attend a college or vocational school in South Dakota or an out of state school that has a reciprocity agreement with South Dakota. Dakota Corps Scholarship Program The Dakota Corps Scholarship Program, created by Governor Rounds, is aimed at encouraging South Dakota high school graduates to: Obtain their postsecondary education in South Dakota; remain in the state upon completion of their education; contribute to the state of South Dakota and its citizens by working in a critical need occupation. Current critical need occupations: teaching k-12 music, special education or foreign language in a public, private or parochial school; teaching high school math or science in a public, private or parochial school;; working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or in other allied health care fields. The scholarship amount will be equal to tuitions and generally applicable fees for 16 credits hours at a public South Dakota college, public technical college, or tribal college. The scholarship amount at a participating private college will be the same amount that is paid at a public South Dakota college. Participating colleges will provide additional scholarship to cover remaining tuition and fees if needed. Darin & Hally Bach Dental Field Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship will be presented to a Watertown High School senior who is planning to pursue a career in the dental field. The student must be planning to obtain a one-year-or over degree in a college or technical school. Dr. Robert H. Cockle Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be a graduate of Watertown High School who will be attending Lake Area Technical Institute in the fall and one who demonstrates financial need necessary to graduate.  Dr. Robert H. Cockle served as Superintendent of Watertown Schools for 18 years.  He was instrumental in the development and growth of the Lake Area Technical Institute.  He believed that all high school graduates should have opportunities to attend post-secondary training at either a technical school or university.  As a life-long educator, Dr. Cockle valued the idea of “life long learners”.Award winner must provide proof of attendance at Lake Area Technical Institute.

Eric Tennis

Eric Tennis was a man with a giant attitude of good will for everyone he ever met, regardless of age, sex, ability, wealth or position.  He brought the best attitude to everything he touched and did, and every challenge he encountered.  When he died, he left behind more friends than any man in Watertown.  The Eric Tennis Awards go to a boy and a girl who each demonstrate Eric’s joyful spirit and attitude and who has endured challenges

Florence M. Bruhn Scholarship Visual Arts and Theater Students - The Florence M. Bruhn Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating WHS senior who is committed to post-secondary education in the area of theater and/or visul arts. Ms. Bruhn was a beloved English, art and drama teacher for 37 years, as well as a devoted member of the community. Frank and Mathilda Rueb Scholarship Mary Rueb Conner created the Frank and Mathilda Rueb Scholarship in memory of her parents, long-time Watertown residents. Mary Rueb Conner is a 1956 Watertown High School graduate. Applicants must be a graduating WHS senior with at least a 2.5 average, must be planning to attend a junior college, college or university and must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Arts. Grand Lodge Ancient Free & Accepted Mason of South Dakota  The Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of South Dakota will award several scholarships of $1,000 each year to South Dakota residents who plan to attend a public or private college, university or technical school in South Dakota as a full time student.  Successful candidates will demonstrate financial need, scholastic capability, and have family connection, either by blood or marriage, to a member of the Masonic fraternity, either living or deceased.  Scholarships will be granted for one year but may be applied for each year for a maximum of five years.  You must be a fulltime student to receive this scholarship. 3/15 Apply Here

Harry P. Sigelman Scholarship The purpose of the Harry Sigelman scholarship is to assist a high school student in attending Lake Area Technical Institute. Horatio Alger Scholarship High school seniors planning to pursue a college education are eligible for this scholarship. The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans will award $2,500 to 50 scholarship recipients in South Dakota. Horton Inc. Scholarship  The purpose of the HORTON Scholarship Program is to assist deserving students willing to enroll in a
Machine Tool Technology related curricula at a public, regionally accredited community or technical

With this program we are awarding five $1,000 scholarships to South Dakota high school seniors via a random drawing.  The only criterion to qualify for this scholarship are: 1) must be a South Dakota resident, 2) be a high school senior for the 2011-2012 academic year, 3) the scholarship will be applied to the 2012/2013 academic year cost of education and 4) must not be on academic probation.  We are also accepting applications from high school juniors and pre-registering them for the drawing next school year.  3/31 Apply Here
Immaculate Conception School Several $1000 scholarships will be available to students who have attended Immaculate conception School. The students selected must have attended for a minimum of three years and are planning to attend a college or vocational/technical school in the fall. James Messer Memorial Scholarship The recipient of this $350 scholarship will be a graduating senior of WHS who has demonstrated high academic ability in the sciences. Jessie D. & Jessie E. Vincent Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is funded from the annual interest earned on the money placed in the Watertown Community Foundation in memory of the Vincent's (up to $1000). Joe Foss - An American Hero Scholarship This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who graduates from a South Dakota accredited high school and who will be attending an institution of higher learning who has a GPA of at least 2.5 and a minimum ACT of 21 and who possess characteristics of an American patriot. 3/15 Apply Here
John Eric Bohle Memorial Scholarship This scholarship has been created out of memory for John Eric Bohle, a 1958 Watertown Senior High School graduate, who passed away on April 3, 1996. The recipient of the John Bohle Scholarship should be a young man from a single parent family who will be attending a post-secondary education program upon graduating from Watertown Senior High School. Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship The South Dakota Junior Golf Foundation will be offering four $1000 scholarships to applicants who have lived in the state of South Dakota for a minimum of two years, and plan to attend a four year South Dakota college, university or accredited post high school institution during the upcoming fall semester. Kimberly Erling Spanish Scholarship This $675.00 scholarship was established in memory of Kimberly Ann Erling who graduated from Watertown High School in 1971.  She spent the last part of her life teaching Spanish or working in fields associated with the language.  To be eligible you must be a Watertown senor who has taken some Spanish in high school.  You must plan to study Spanish in college but not necessarily major or minor in the language.  Seniors considered for this scholarship do not have to be the best student but a deserving one.   4/6 Apply Here

National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Student Essay/Scholarship Program The NIAAA sponsors a student essay/scholarship program to recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student's life. Applicants must submit an essay on the topic: "How High School Athletics Has Impacted My Life." Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship Shell Oil Company offers $5,000 annual scholarships through its Shell Incentive Fund program to under-represented students pursuing a four-year degree in a specific technical field of study at certain colleges. The scholarship can be used to pay for tuition and/or normal living expenses. If the necessary criteria are met, scholarships are renewable up to four years or until completion of an undergraduate degree. Sheila Jean Rueb Memorial Scholarship Mary Rueb Conner and Frank A. Rueb III created the Sheila Jean Rueb Memorial Scholarship in memory of their sister.  Mary Rueb Conner is a 1956 Watertown High School graduate and Frank A. Rueb III is a 1941 Watertown High School graduate. Applicants must be a graduating Watertown High School senior with at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must attend a junior college, college or university and must be pursuing a degree in a health-related field. Society of Automotive Engineers Scholarship This program provides direct tuition grants to outstanding students pursuing engineering degrees. To be eligible you must be a citizen of the United States be a high school junior or senior, have at least a 3.5 grade point average and meet minimum requirements with regard to SAT or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of the scholarship. South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship The South Dakota Legislature authorized the Regents Scholarship Program to allow South Dakota’s most academically accomplished high school graduates to receive an affordable education at any university, college, or technical school in South Dakota that is accredited by the North Central Association.  This scholarship provides $5,000 over four years to a qualifying student who attends an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota.  You must be a resident of South Dakota at the time of high school graduation, have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or and SAT of 1070 or higher, must complete the course requirements of the Regents Scholars curriculum with no final grade below a C, and have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (based on state conversion of numeric grade points).  The Regents Scholar curriculum is as follows:  4 units of English, 3 units of social studies, 4 units of algebra or higher mathematics, 4 units of science, ˝ unit of computer science, 1 unit of fine arts and 2 units of the same modern or classical language. 9/1 Apply Here
South Dakota Retail Association Scholarship The applicant for this scholarship must be enrolled in a retail-related course of study at a vocational technical school, or as a student at a college or university in any field of study relating to a career in the retail industry at the time of application and during the actual disbursement of the award. South Dakota Society for Technology in Education (SDSTE) Scholarship The SDSTE will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior enrolling in the field of educational or informational technology. USS Gustafson Memorial Scholarship This scholarship will go to a Watertown senior who has demonstrated academic ability but currently does not have the financial resources to attend college. This must be a student who can contribute much to his/her community if given the opportunity, a student who has shown leadership and participation in school and community activities. Veterans of Foreign Wars / Voice of Democracy Scholarship Voice of Democracy is a broadcast scriptwriting scholarship program with over 137,000 students participating from schools in each of our 50 states, D.C., Europe and Pacific Areas.  To enter the competition a student must write and then record a short three to five minute script covering the theme chosen for the current year.  The competition is open to 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students.  Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the local, district, state and national levels. State winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to tour the city, meet our nation's leaders, be honored by the VFW and Auxiliary and receive their portion of $149,000 in national awards, the top scholarship being $30,000. 11/1 Apply Here
Warren E. Lindquist Friendship Scholarship The family of Warren E. Lindquist, a 1941 graduate of Watertown High School, has established a unique scholarship in honor of Mr. Lindquist. This is an opportunity for a senior to nominate a fellow senior for a $1000 scholarship. The student selected will have demonstrated the greatest friendship by their acts and deeds toward you. The criteria for selection will be based on your short essay describing how this person has been the greatest friend to you. Scholarship is for $1000. 4/03 Apply Here
Watertown Education Association Scholarship A, $500 scholarship will be awarded to a person who expresses a strong commitment to pursuing teaching as a career. The applicant must be a senior at Watertown High School and must be in the top half of his or her class. Selection will be based on academics, essay, and teacher recommendations. 3/25 Apply Here
Watertown Optimist Scholarship The Watertown Optimist Club annually awards one $500 scholarship and one $250 scholarship to seniors in Codington County who plan to attend a college or technical school.  The selection is based on a 500-word essay, community involvement, and academic achievement. 4/6 Apply Here
Watertown Quarterback Club Scholarship 

 

 

This scholarship will provide four $1,000 scholarships to deserving Watertown High School graduating seniors  who intend to pursue a post-high school course of study at either a college/university or other post-secondary educational institution. 4/23 Apply Here
Watertown Rotary Club College Scholarship The Watertown Rotary Club will award scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to graduating seniors of WHS who demonstrate academic promise, leadership and service to youth, peers and elders.  They must demonstrate through personal example high percepts of character and who demonstrate financial need. Watertown  Optimist Club Scholarship The Watertown Optimist Club annually awards one $500 and one $250 scholarship to seniors within Codington County. Wells Fargo College STEPS Scholarship Sweepstakes The Wells Fargo College STEPS Scholarship Sweepstakes is open to high school seniors who enroll in the Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS Program. Drawings for the $1,000 scholarship will be held on eight drawing dates between October and May. There will be a total of 20 winners. WHS Student Senate Scholarship This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors of Watertown High School except members of the WHS Student Senate. The amount of this scholarship is $500. World War II Veteran's Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was endowed by Fern and Darwin Williams who attended Watertown Senior High. It is a memorial to those who gave their lives in World War II. Financial need is consideration for selection. Need is defined as absence of family or inability of a family or guardian to provide financial assistance for school-related expense. The award is for $2,000. Wurth Electronics Midcom Scholarship Wurth Electronics Midcom will award a scholarship in the amount of $2500 to a student entering the
first year of post-secondary schooling. The student must have been accepted into a university or
business college in South Dakota.
