Big
G Box Tops for Education
|
Roosevelt
has participated in this General Mills sponsored fundraiser
for the past 4 years. Every year the families have saved
more box tops than the previous year. The money earned from
this program is used to fund end of the year activities for
the Roughrider and Honor Roll students. |
Econofoods Receipts
Every year
Roosevelt Elementary participates in the Econofoods Save Our
School (SOS) program. This program will award our school with
$1000 if we can save and collect $150,000 worth of receipts from
their store. With this money, we are able to buy computers,
software, playground equipment and improvements, or other
student incentives that are above what the school budget will
allow. Each year the school has been a part of this program, we
have been awarded the $1,000.
Throughout the school year,
students are given the opportunity to take part in various contests with
bringing in a certain amount of receipts by a given date to earn small tokens.
Students may bring their
receipts to school and drop them in a box, or parents may put their receipts in
a box that is labeled "Roosevelt Elementary" at the store. Enlist your
neighbors, friends, and relatives to save receipts to help Roosevelt.
Campbell Soup Labels
The Learning Center uses
Campbell Soup labels as a math project. Twice a year the labels are cut to size,
sorted, put in groups of 10’s, 100’s and 500’s. At the end of the year, they can
either “cash” in the labels or “bank” them for use at another time. They have
received a cassette recorder with listening stations (6,000 labels), computer
software (6,200 labels), and a pocket size 35 mm camera (8,000 labels) for their
classroom.
Pop
Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House
|
For the past several years,
Roosevelt students have been collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald
House in Sioux Falls. Some years, the second graders have counted the tabs.
They have counted as many as 10,000 tabs in one year! Some years they have
weighed the tabs. One pound equals 933 tabs. The tabs make wonderful
counters for graphing, adding, subtracting, working with place value, and
measuring length and weight. |
Pop tabs contribute over $1,000
monthly to the Ronald McDonald House. This means that families who need lodging
while their child is receiving medical care in Sioux Falls, can stay at this
facility for a minimal or no cost fee.
We are proud to contribute to
the Ronald McDonald House. Please bring your pop tabs to Roosevelt School is you
would like to share in this community service project!
